Taking steps towards employment in 2022

Gain experience and confidence by volunteering or taking part in a work placement

• Start a new course or training programme to get a qualification • Create your first CV with support from us • Apply for a job • Learn how to use technology like Zoom and Teams for video job interviews • Apply for a promotion or a job with better working conditions • Or just take the first step by making an appointment to talk to us… you never know where it might take you!

Here at the Job Hub, we continue to see high numbers of job vacancies from employers in Camden and across London. There are lots of opportunities across all sectors, with particular continuing demand for staff in hospitality, retail and care work.

Apprenticeships continue to be a popular choice, with lots of employers offering candidates a chance to ‘earn as you learn’ and gain a qualification while also getting real world experience on the job. Apprenticeships are for everyone, no matter what your age or background, and it’s possible to find apprenticeships in almost every type of work specialism whether that is plumbing, publishing, construction, childcare, nursing, civil surveying or business administration! It’s also always a good time to consider boosting your skills or returning to education.

You might want to improve your spoken or written English, gain a qualification in Maths or English, work towards accessing higher education, or do a vocational course. Whatever your aim, you are welcome to talk it through with us and we can support you with finding and applying for suitable training and courses.

Although we are called the Job Hub, we support everyone – not just people who want to find a job immediately, but also those who want to start thinking through their options. We would love to work with you, wherever you are on your journey.

Overcoming barriers

If you are struggling to overcome a particular challenge relating to employment or training, please get in touch and talk to us about it. We can often point you in the direction of an organisation or fund that can help you.

This might mean: • Suitable clothing for a job interview • Childcare costs while you attend an interview • A license or accreditation that you need to get work • Access to technology • Advice on how to set up your own business • Help with course fees so you can gain a qualification that will help you find employment • Something else that isn’t on this list! If you are experiencing a barrier to finding work or training, get in touch.

There is often more support available than you may realise, and we can help you to find and apply for it as needed. We can also refer you to other local Camden organisations that can help you with other areas of your life such as managing your finances, staying mentally and physically healthy, understanding benefits, getting legal advice, and more.
