The Somers Town community got together to mark the next phase of a bold set of environmental projects that are bringing the community together to improve the climate resilience of their area.
Some of our Somers Town Future Neighbourhoods 2030 partners – Joy Riders, Your Bike Project, and A Story Bike participated in the fourth annual London Clean Air Cycle Ride, formerly known as the Camden Clean Air Cycle Ride, returned with an expanded route to include Westminster and Islington, promoting cleaner air through a family-friendly and non-competitive bike ride for all levels.
The event took place on Saturday, 29 June 2024, with waves departing from 10:00 until 12:00. The start and finish lines are at Granary Square, supported by King’s Cross.
Riders journeyed through iconic staples of the cycle ride, such as Camden Town, Primrose Hill, and Hampstead Heath. The ride also included a modified route through Regent’s Park to include Westminster, and a new addition, the Barnsbury Conservation Area in Islington, among others.
The cycle ride is an inclusive, non-competitive bike ride, open to all riders regardless of experience. The event aims to unite the community in celebration of cycling, cleaner air, and the vibrant sights of London.
This year marked a milestone as the event rebrands to the London Clean Air Cycle Ride, ahead of the launch of the London Clean Air Initiative. The new route underscored our commitment to improving air quality throughout London, as the group expands their services to neighbouring boroughs.
About The Camden Clean Air Initiative
The Camden Clean Air Initiative is a non-profit action group aiming to improve air quality across the Borough of Camden. By working closely with the entire community, including schools, businesses, and residents, as well as the local authority, they provide resources and support alongside their clean air projects.
Their projects increase awareness and education around air pollution, and aim to introduce policy and infrastructural change, to propel Camden forward as a Borough of excellence.
